Name/TitleBand-Cup
About this objectIn the scene on this drinking cup, Herakles and some accompanying youths engage in battle with an Amazon, whose white skin indicates she is a female. This scene, repeated on both sides of the cup, is probably the ninth of Herakles' Twelve Labours, fighting the Amazons to steal their queen Hippolyte’s leather belt.
Black-figure cups like this one have the decoration in a band, while the rest of the cup is left black.
