About this objectThis vase was used to mix strong wine and water. It is painted with lustrous black glaze, and has a band of laurel leaves under the lip of the vase.
On Side A we see the busts of a griffin, an Amazon, and a horse, all facing right. In the field above are the upper parts of two doric-like columns. Relief line is used for details but there is no relief contour. White, with details in dilute glaze, is used for the skin of the Amazon and for the columns. Below the scene is a band of meander and saltire squares.
Side B depicts two cloaked youths about a central doric-like column. The youth at the left has his right arm extended. Below this scene is another band of meander and saltire squares.
