Name/TitleAmphora
About this objectAmphorae are very common storage vessels and come in a variety of styles and shapes. Featured here is a lustrous black glazed vase with two well-known scenes on either side.
On side A Herakles is pictured attacking Geryon. On side B is the Return of Hephaistos to Mt Olympus. Red and white paint is added to some of the figures and decoration. The base features some graffiti - possibly an anchor indicating this may have been a vase used for sea-trade.
