Uncovering hidden Canterbury College gems
In 2020 a special UC research project team, funded by a Lotteries Environment and Heritage grant, began a project to survey of heritage artefacts within the University that have links to the original Canterbury College site, now The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora.
The purpose of the survey is to gather information on extant heritage artefacts that might help to build the narrative of the University’s early history, especially as we look towards commemorating the University’s 150th anniversary in 2023. These heritage artefacts include tools, furniture, instruments, regalia, and general memorabilia that have come from the Canterbury College site or were used by College staff and students between 1873-1957.
You can browse the Canterbury College collection online.
If you are aware of any additional artefacts of interest, or have information you would like to include in the survey, the team would be keen to hear from you.
